That's a fair guess, but I still think there's no excuse on Bungie's part to drop the ball on this. If you don't have the extra money to devote to a good story (which they should've, considering the initial investment), then don't try to make a good story. Keep it simple and acknowledge the game is not meant to be a novel.

I hate the implication that tv shows are just supposed to functionally be propaganda- and if they're not creating positive associations with good people (people who think and act like me) and contrasting negative associations with bad people (people who think and act differently than me) then it's problematic.

It is so confusing because it is a game with a lot of content to it. The same way skyrim can be confusing when you get 50 quests at once. So my recommendation to you, is ignore the guides. Some are just not what you need, others are blatantly not really made for a person like yourself, with your goals.

This is the reason I got out of Warframe, because the difficulty scaling was so incredibly broken on a fundamental level. Due to the players being so powerful, DE's answer to making "difficult" content without outright nerfing the players was to either A) make bosses with ludicrous invincibility phases, or B) make enemies that scale to literal infinity so at some point you just cannot.

Destiny 2 is a game that has significantly grown well beyond its original design. Essentially the larger the game is, the longer it takes to upload and test changes in builds and so on. And as it gets significantly and increasingly bigger, it exponentially affects the amount and quality of new content.
